Traveling

It has never been easy for me. I require a lot of extra stuff. If I made a checklist it would go something like this, all the normal stuff able bodied people bring with them, plus:

Full time personal attendant ($10 hr)
wheelchair charger (own)
Shower chair commode (own)
Portable lift system (own)
rails (rent)
batteries (own)
lift battery charger (own)
hospital bed for hotel room (rent)
take extra room for the PA (rent)

So you can see I don't so a lot of traveling. It gets pretty expensive. I've never wanted to share this with anyone before because I felt embarrassed by this. But it is what it is. I am 44 years old with advanced limb girdle muscular dystrophy. I've been in my chair full time since 2003. I've lost a lot of muscle and gained a lot of fat.

This weeks prompt, well it prompted me to share this. I am not trying to annoy anyone with the woe is me routine, I am just saying there is a lot of extra stuff involved. This is one more reason to make this lifestyle change. Every twenty pounds I lose will make my dream of traveling more obtainable. I don't know if my mobility will improve but I have to think it will. In fact, I believe it will and belief is enough for me.

Going Strong on Day 15! Yay, I get to add beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains tomorrow!

Kristen, I have always enjoyed your writing. I pick your name out of the list to see what you have to say. I had no idea of your private troubles. Add me to the list of those who wish you well.

Kirsten, it says a lot about your spirit that I never would have guessed that about you.
You will get on those travels..and then write a diary about it. Keep going!!

Lady, you're already flying with the wind in your hair. You're behind the wheel. Keep your pedal to the metal and you'll pass all of us as we sit still.
